In June 2023, the Fairfax County (Virginia) Police Department took a significant step towards enhancing community relations by launching a new public survey aimed at better understanding residents’ trust and satisfaction with the department. This initiative, utilizing the survey instrument Blockwise, represents a concerted effort by the department to gain a holistic understanding of neighborhood issues and improve the agency’s responsiveness to local community concerns and priorities.
As Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis emphasized during the press conference announcing the survey, “This effort represents a belief that we can only improve what is measured. With this survey, we will collect better data and be more responsive to the concerns and issues of our residents, in addition to our existing focus on reducing crime and disorder.” The survey is designed not only to assess public trust but also to gather valuable insights into the specific issues that matter most to Fairfax County residents.
The data collected through Blockwise will enable the police department to tailor its strategies and interventions more effectively, ensuring that they are aligned with the needs and expectations of the community. This initiative underscores the department's commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Zencity’s Chief Strategy Officer, Michael Simon, also addressed the press at the launch, highlighting the importance of data-driven approaches in fostering stronger community-police relations. Chief Davis’s leadership in this initiative is a reflection of his commitment to making Fairfax County a safer and more responsive community.
